THE MONTICELLO OPERA HOUSE - MONTICELLO, FLORIDA May 28, 2009

Florida tourism has a taste of history for you to visit at the Monticello Opera House. You will be able to step back in time when you enter the doors of the refurbished facility. It was saved from the wrecking ball by a group of dedicated citizens from the area that didn’t want to see this beautiful building, built in 1890, destroyed.

The original use of the building was for the Perkins mercantile interests. It held a general store and sewing machine ship on the first floor as well as a farm implement supply store in another bay. The upstairs was an opera house with fabulous seating and large stage.

Even though the building is back in use there are ongoing restoration projects being done on it. It now meets the fire code and the disabilities requirements for everyone to be able to come and see the beautiful building and enjoy the music, theatre and humor offered by the presentations held at the Opera House.
