A majority of people go to Siem Reap to travel later to Angkor Wat. More than just a place to stay while you’re visiting the Angkor Archaeological Park, Siem Reap is a beautiful city in its own right and has a lot to offer a tourist. There are lots of very interesting places to see that might not necessarily be on any tourist map that you would think of during your Siem Reap travels.

As with any trip, when you go to Siem Reap to travel, you want something that you can bring back as a souvenir of the trip. There are many place you can go to in Siem Reap to find this; one of the best is the Psar Chas, or Old Market, which is located in the southern end of SIem Reap.. Travel here if you want to find something reasonably attractive, you have a choice of artifacts or fun tourist junk. Just beware of anything that the seller claims is antique. If it is antique, it is stolen, otherwise they are lying.
In the center of Siem Reap, the corner of Sivatha Blvd and Achamean Street, you can find the creatively named Central Market. Travel here to find a wide assortment of things, including an eclectic collection of clothes and trinkets for good prices. And although it is not acceptable in all markets, you can haggle over prices in Central Market. Since a lot of the stalls carry the same things, do your homework and make sure that you’re getting the best deal. The Central Market carries lots of interesting things, and some of them aren’t available in Thailand.
If you’re looking for a unique reminder of your Siem Reap travels, the Khmer Ceramics and Bronzes Centre is a great place to go to. At the Centre, young Cambodians are trained in the Khmer ceramic and bronze arts, and they also sell their work. If you want to try it yourself, there are half-day courses specially geared towards visitors in ceramics and bronze casting. There are courses for both adults and children available. Admission is free, but a donation is encouraged and appreciated; funds to towards supporting the students.
With a little leg work and investigation, you can find many places within the city to find wonderful souvenirs of your Siem Reap travels. No matter what kind of souvenir you are looking for, the many markets and cultural centers of Siem Reap will give you a lasting memory of the magical time you spent in Cambodia. You may be tempted to spend up all of your time in the Angkor Archaeological Park, and that would be easy to do, but make sure to also see Siem Reap, and travel to all of their wonderful markets.
